Why should I get a new Head Shot?
This is a question everyone asks themselves as they view their business card and social media profile photos. Head shots are one of the determining factors of whether or not we actually would call the person on the phone or engage with a business plan. If your portrait does not show off who you are then why not get another professionally done!
I am Jeanine, owner of Jeanine Brown Photo Design and I specialize in high quality business portraits, social events and boudoir photography. I have a great studio in Sunnyvale and also do on site portraits.
As a photographer, when viewing people’s photographs on the business card, I ponder why not pay a little bit more money to get the right head shot for it There are all sorts of factors, which will cause a head shot to turn out unpleasing, but just a few tweaks then your head shot would look like a million bucks!
For example:
Bad Lighting:
As seen in the photograph, if you don’t have enough light in your photograph, you won’t show up…
Or if there is too much light, you will be blown out.

Bad Position:
Being in front of the camera straight on will make you look board and unpleasing. Pushing your face back will exaggerate your chin. If you stand in front of the camera in an angle or extend your chin out, this will go away.
Busy Background:
Having a busy background will take away from your photograph. The eye will not be on you but the things behind you.
Having a Professional Finished/Retouched Image:
This is a finished and retouched image.
Please feel free to give me a call to discuss your head shot and set up a session! http://http://www.jbrownphotography.com/

I really love this post, Jeanine, and that you showed the examples of how such small changes can have a dramatic impact! I can really relate to this, since in my interior design business, lighting and position are very important too. I also recommend that when people frame photographs (especially in groupings), that they keep the frames simple, and all the same style. Just as you said, if the surroundings are too busy, it takes the eye away from the photo, and that’s what we want them to focus on. I couldn’t agree more that a good head shot is important – it’s that first impression, and people will decide immediately if they want to approach you. Thanks for the great tips!
